I was so excited to see this car on my way home from the office yesterday! A Jaguar XJ220 is an extremely rare sight. How rare? Jaguar initially planned to build 350 of these supercars in the early 1990s, but in the end they only built about 265. And even then, Jaguar couldn’t sell the ones it built because the entire supercar market was taking a hit at that time. Too bad — it’s an amazing car. And it’s much bigger than I expected. Long, low and wide — exactly the way a proper supercar should be.

Why am I so geeked about this sighting? Do you remember this blog post I wrote more than 3 years ago? In it I specifically listed the Jaguar XJ220 as one of the cars that I never had the pleasure of seeing on the road. And now I can cross that one off my list! That’s a really good feeling.

Because of where I spotted this one (Northern Roswell, Ga., about two miles away from Ferrari/Maserati of Atlanta), I’m going to assume that it was this exact car returning to the dealership for service. Take a good look at those photos — there are four gauges located in the driver’s door panel!

And did I mention the amazing engine sound? That 542-horsepower, 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V-6 sounded absolutely incredible! And that was just in traffic and idling at stoplights. I only wish I could have heard it at full-roar on the highway.

Keep your eyes open. You never know what you might see (or when you’ll see it).
